KIPP Austin Collegiate

KIPP Austin Collegiate serves to support our students on their final climb up the mountain to college. Our academic program enables students to develop and practice intellectual habits, to build academic skills, and to cultivate character traits necessary to thrive in, and graduate from, four year colleges and universities. An enduring aspect of the education we provide at KIPP Austin Collegiate is that students will take responsibility for positively affecting their communities and shaping their own future. Proceed and be bold.

KIPP Austin Collegiate offers rigorous academic courses, an Advisory program, and competitive electives. Specific programming includes: AP course offerings; college-ready Seminars; ACT courses; grade-level homerooms; and competitive dance, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and band. In addition, we also offer experiences outside of the classroom walls through End of Year Field Lessons, which are annual off-campus opportunities for our students to visit college campuses and continue to build cultural capital.

Letter from the Principal

-Dr. James Pasto, Principal of KIPP Austin Collegiate

About Principal Pasto: Dr. James Pasto was born in upstate New York to a family of educators. After graduating from Syracuse University with a B.A. in history and education, he began his educational career as a substitute and teachers aid. He enrolled at SUNY Cortland where he received a master’s degree (M.S. Ed) in secondary education. His first full time teaching experience came in Boca Raton, Florida where he taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade social studies. While there he also coached football, basketball and baseball. A new job opportunity for his wife brought him out to California, where he fell in love with charter schools and the charter school movement. Before becoming an administrator he worked at charter schools in eastern (KIPP LA Prep) and southern Los Angeles as a social studies teacher. He was an administrator for Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) for six years, working at both the middle school and high school levels. In 2014 he graduated with a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from Loyola Marymount University.

In 2015 he moved to Austin with his wife Lindsay to become the principal at KIPP Austin collegiate. He is very excited to join the KIPP Austin team and family and to be part of the great tradition at KAC.
